The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong call to action for its supporters to remain vigilant during the crucial counting and transportation of ballot papers until the final results of the presidential and parliamentary elections are officially declared in constituencies across Ghana. The party has raised concerns about potential manipulation by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging its members to stay focused and alert.

In a statement delivered by the NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, on December 7th, supporters were urged to refrain from premature celebrations and instead, accompany Electoral Commission (EC) officials as they transport ballot boxes and electoral materials to various collation centers. Gyamfi emphasized the importance of every Ghanaian, especially NDC supporters and sympathizers, in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

Addressing the supporters, Gyamfi stated, “If you are not at the polling station and you’re hearing this message wherever you are in your constituency, this is the time for you to play your role. You have voted. Your votes have been counted and declared at the polling station. Now you have the responsibility to protect those votes.” This call to action underscores the NDC’s commitment to safeguarding the democratic process and ensuring that every vote is accurately counted.

Gyamfi also issued a warning to all party agents to remain vigilant and prepared for any attempts by the NPP to manipulate the election outcome. He raised concerns about potential ballot box snatching, swapping, and manipulation of result sheets, citing past incidents such as the controversial Techiman South election in 2020.

The NDC’s appeal comes in the wake of reports of fake ballot papers surfacing in various constituencies, including Ablekuma West and Ayawaso Central. These incidents have raised suspicions of foul play and underscore the need for heightened vigilance among party supporters and officials.

As the electoral process unfolds, the NDC remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring a fair and transparent election. Supporters are urged to remain vigilant, stay united, and defend the integrity of the electoral process until the final results are officially declared.
