Alexander Wallace Blair, the new owner of the Moselle Estate House where Alex Murdaugh murdered his wife and son, claims to have found evidence that may prove Murdaugh’s innocence. Blair purchased the property in Islandton, SC, for $1 million in February 2024 and has been renovating the home since then.

Murdaugh was convicted last year of the 2021 murders of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, and received two life sentences without parole. The crime experts believed he ambushed them at the estate’s dog kennels, which were not included in the property when Blair bought it at auction. However, Blair claims that the kennel was included and has kept the door and window with bullet holes from the shooting.

After evaluating the evidence, Blair believes that Murdaugh, being a big man, was too large to have fired the deadly shots. While acknowledging that Murdaugh may not be a saint, Blair does not think he is guilty of the murders. He has also received support from some neighbors in the area who share his belief in Murdaugh’s innocence.

Blair, who hails from Rock Hill, has no personal connection to Murdaugh but has a set of keys and a keychain that belonged to Maggie, which he is holding onto in case their surviving son, Richard “Buster” Murdaugh, wants them back as a keepsake.

The estate, originally spanning 1,700 acres, was bought by businessmen James Ayer and Jeffrey Godley for $3.9 million. They later divided the land, putting the home and 21 acres back on the market for $1.95 million, which Blair was able to purchase for $1 million. He plans to use the property as his secondary residence and hopes to remove the negative stigma surrounding it.

Blair is currently renovating the house and the grounds, including adding a pond, horse fences, and demolishing structures associated with Murdaugh. He expects the work to be completed by mid-November. Despite Murdaugh’s convictions, he maintains his innocence in the murders of his wife and son.
