Stellantis Middle East&Africa (MEA) is excited to support “La Croisière Verte”, a remarkable 14,000-kilometer journey across Africa in four fully-electric Citroën AMIs. This adventurous expedition is organized by entrepreneur and former rally driver Éric Vigouroux and celebrates 100 years since André Citroën’s legendary “Croisière Noire”, embodying the same spirit of exploration but now focused on sustainable mobility.
To mark this centenary, Éric Vigouroux has embarked on the challenge of retracing the iconic route with electric vehicles powered solely by renewable energy. The journey kicked off with a symbolic send-off at the Mondial de l’Auto in Paris by Mr. Henri-Jacques Citroën, grandson of André Citroën, emphasizing the call for environmental consciousness and eco-friendly travel throughout Africa. Stellantis MEA, along with its Brand Citroën MEA, has joined forces as a dedicated partner in this initiative, aligning with a shared vision for promoting sustainable mobility on the African continent.
The expedition set off from Ouarzazate, Morocco, the very country where the Citroën AMI is manufactured and distributed, highlighting the vehicle’s regional roots. Equipped with onboard solar kits by the organizers, the Citroën AMIs are fully self-sufficient in generating their own power, showcasing the potential of micro-mobility even in challenging terrains.
As part of Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 vision, Stellantis MEA is committed to making clean and accessible mobility a reality across the Middle East and Africa. With a population of 2 billion and approximately 4 million new car sales annually, the MEA region presents a significant opportunity for micro-electromobility. Stellantis envisions this segment as a vital link between two-wheelers and traditional pre-owned vehicles, offering a fresh solution for urban and regional transportation.
Samir Cherfan, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis MEA, emphasized the company’s dedication to leading the micro-electromobility transformation in the region. The Kenitra plant in Morocco plays a crucial role in producing a range of electric micro-mobility vehicles tailored specifically for the region, including the Citroën AMI, Opel Rocks-e, and Fiat Topolino. With an annual production capacity of 70,000 units, the Kenitra plant underscores Stellantis’ commitment to regional industrialization, local supplier networks, and engineering expertise.
The success of the Citroën AMI is evident with over 65,000 units sold globally across 17 countries. Recognized for its innovative design, the Citroën AMI has garnered acclaim, including winning the ‘Grand Prix du Design Automobile 2024’. In Morocco, the world’s largest Citroën AMI fleet is in operation, with 225 units supporting postal services in Casablanca and Rabat, showcasing the vehicle’s durability, environmental sustainability, and operational efficiency.
Stellantis MEA continues to drive the electric vehicle landscape forward, ensuring that sustainable micromobility becomes a reality across the Middle East and Africa. As “La Croisière Verte” embarks on its historic journey, it signifies a new era of mobility, demonstrating how compact, efficient electric vehicles can revolutionize transportation in dynamic regions. Stellantis MEA is dedicated to empowering communities with innovative mobility solutions for a sustainable future.
