LaLiga and its clubs are coming together to support a campaign aimed at raising funds for the Red Cross to assist those affected by the devastating flash floods that have claimed the lives of at least 158 people in Spain. The initiative will be promoted during this weekend’s match broadcasts and across various social media platforms.

In a show of solidarity, Real Madrid has announced that they will collaborate with the Red Cross by donating a generous sum of one million euros ($1.09 million) towards the relief efforts. This contribution underscores the club’s commitment to supporting the communities affected by the natural disaster.

In a statement released on Thursday, LaLiga expressed its condolences and solidarity with the families of the victims and the missing individuals. The football organization emphasized the importance of standing together during times of crisis and offering support to those in need.

The Spanish Football Association has called for a minute of silence to be observed before games as a tribute to the lives lost in the floods. This gesture of remembrance will precede matches as a mark of respect for the tragic events that have unfolded in the country.

In light of the devastating impact of the floods, seven midweek Cup matches have been postponed, along with all games scheduled for the Valencia region this weekend. Real Sociedad’s Copa del Rey encounter with Jove Espanyol in Alicante is the only game without a rescheduled date, while six postponed matches have been moved to the following week.

LaLiga has requested that the ten affected clubs in the top two divisions submit proposals for new fixture dates before next Tuesday. Among the postponed matches is Valencia’s La Liga game against the visiting team on Saturday, as well as Real Madrid’s clash with Villarreal and Rayo Vallecano.

Valencia has opened the Mestalla stadium as a drop-off point for donations of food and essential items, providing a platform for the community to come together and support those in need during this difficult time.

The collective efforts of LaLiga, its clubs, and the broader football community in Spain demonstrate the power of unity and solidarity in the face of adversity. Through their actions and contributions, they are making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the recent floods, offering hope and support to those who need it most.
