President-elect of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has announced the formation of the 2024 transition team to oversee the transfer of power from the current administration of President Akufo-Addo. The team, as per the provisions of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), is tasked with ensuring a smooth handover of political power to the incoming government.
In a statement released on Tuesday, 10 December, by Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), it was revealed that the transition team comprises individuals with expertise in various fields such as finance, governance, and public administration. The team will collaborate closely with representatives of the outgoing government to facilitate a seamless transition process.
The Joint Transition Team includes Hon. Julius Debrah as the Co-Chairperson, with members such as Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, Dr Callistus Mahama (who also serves as the Secretary to the Transition Team), Dr Valerie Sawyer, Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, Hon. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Hon. Goosie Tanoh, and Dr Edward Omane Boamah.
Furthermore, the President-elect has nominated Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho as a member of the Transitional Advisory Council to provide additional guidance during the transition period.
John Dramani Mahama emerged as the president-elect following the announcement made on Monday, 9 December 2024, by Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. With 267 out of the 276 constituencies reporting results, Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes (56.55%), defeating Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who garnered 4,657,304 votes (41.61%), marking a significant margin of 1,671,093 votes.
The formation of the transition team signifies a crucial step in the transfer of power and sets the stage for a smooth and efficient transition process as Ghana prepares for a new administration under President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
