The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) county level elections saw candidates aligned with Team Blue emerge victorious in two out of three repeat elections held on Saturday, October 16th.

In Mandera County, Ismael Mohammed Issack was elected as the FKF chairman, while William Lokwee secured the position in Turkana County. The repeat elections were conducted after ties in the initial election on Thursday.

In Nyandarua County, an ally of former FKF chairperson Lucy Kageni emerged victorious amidst allegations of bribery and voter intimidation during the election process.

Lucy Kageni, who is the running mate of former FKF CEO Barry Otieno, hails from Nyandarua and previously served as the county chairperson.

Reports indicate that the election in Nyandarua County was marred by malpractices such as intimidation and bribery, with promises of bursary allocations being used to influence voters. County Governor Kiarie Badilisha intervened to address escalating tensions during the heated race.

The initial vote in Nyandarua resulted in a tie between Team Blue and Lucy Kageni’s candidate, leading to a repeat of the polls.

Team Blue, led by Petra and Nick Mwendwa, has secured the support of 31 confirmed county chairmen and is in contention for four additional votes in grey areas. Cleophas Shimanyula of Kakamega Homeboyz is projected to secure one more vote in the grey areas, which are leaning towards Team Blue.

Hussein Mohammed has the backing of 14 counties, with four votes in grey areas also aligning with Team Blue.

The repeat elections in Turkana and Mandera were necessary as the initial polls did not include a vote for the position of chairman. Nyandarua County conducted a repeat poll due to a tie in the chairman’s position.

Team Blue has shown strength in various regions, with allies of Petra and Mwendwa winning a majority of counties in the North Rift and coastal regions. In the Mount Kenya region, Team Blue has secured Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, while five counties in Nyanza are also aligned with the Mwendwa-Petra axis.
