A prominent Democratic donation processing service, Act Blue, is currently under scrutiny as the Republican-led House Oversight Committee has launched an investigation into reported concerns of potential fraudulent and illicit financial activities.
The committee raised issues regarding the misuse of ActBlue as a platform to circumvent campaign finance laws. In a letter addressed to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, they requested copies of financial suspicious activity reports related to ActBlue.

The lawmakers expressed their concerns in the letter, stating that recent reports have raised suspicions of fraudulent activities, specifically pointing out ActBlue’s lack of standard procedures to prevent identity theft and fraud. They highlighted incidents where contributions were allegedly made fraudulently without the contributor’s knowledge, including cases of single donors making numerous separate donations worth substantial amounts.
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares initiated an investigation into the misuse of ActBlue following reports of “dummy” accounts being used to make thousands of donations, potentially by criminal entities. Such actions violate campaign finance laws by enabling individuals to donate in someone else’s name, thus evading oversight and contribution limits.

With heightened concerns about foreign interference in U.S. elections, especially after allegations of Russian involvement and voter fraud, both Republicans and Democrats are facing increased scrutiny and oversight to prevent such interference.
Despite the allegations and investigations, Act Blue has not provided any comments or responses regarding the matter.
Rep. Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., expressed his stance on the issue, emphasizing the importance of transparency in campaign finance and condemning any shady practices or foreign interference. He called for accountability and disclosure of the true sources behind the contributions made through ActBlue.
