A Georgia police officer who was once honored as “Deputy of the Year” found himself facing charges of driving under the influence after a bizarre incident at an elementary school. Garrison Page, a deputy with the Houston County Sheriff’s office, was allegedly found attempting to direct traffic on a street with no cars while displaying signs of intoxication.
Witnesses called authorities to Skyview Elementary School after seeing Page acting erratically and unsteadily directing traffic while wearing plain clothes. When officers arrived, they found Page slurring his speech and smelling of alcohol, with an open can of Mike’s Hard Lemonade in his patrol vehicle.
Despite being questioned by law enforcement officers, Page reportedly tried to walk away from the scene and refused to cooperate. He was also found to have an unopened can of Natural Light beer in his patrol car, in addition to the open can of Mike’s Hard Lemonade.
Following his arrest, Page allegedly resisted when officers attempted to draw blood for testing. This incident occurred just eight days after he started working for the Houston County Sheriff’s office, having previously been recognized as “Deputy of the Year” in 2019 while serving with the Bibb County Sheriff’s office.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for the Houston sheriff’s office stated that Page had been suspended pending possible termination. The former award-winning officer now faces the consequences of his actions as he navigates the legal repercussions of driving under the influence.
