Ogun State Government Condemns Alleged Attack by Singer Portable on Officials

The Ogun State Government has strongly condemned the alleged attack by singer Portable on officials of the Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).

The incident occurred when OGPDPA officials attempted to seal Portable’s Odogwu Bar and Restaurant for lacking approved permits and sufficient air space.

Portable claimed the officials stormed his premises, arrested over 20 people, and seized vehicles, gadgets, and personal belongings.

However, Commissioner for Physical Planning, Olatunji Odunlami, dismissed these claims as “spurious and blatant falsehood.”

The altercation led to the arrest and arraignment of nine individuals on charges including armed violence, obstruction, assault, and intent to kill. Each was granted bail at N5 million with registered bond agents as sureties. The case was adjourned to March 17.

In a statement on Saturday, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s special adviser, Kayode Akinmade, expressed shock and disappointment at Portable’s “uncivil actions.”

The government described the attack as “bizarre” and labelled Portable a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” with a history of assaulting officials.

Governor Abiodun condemned the incident and vowed that those responsible would face legal consequences.

“We are profoundly taken aback by the unpleasant and uncivil act of hip-hop artiste Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, in the Iyana-Ilogbo area,” the statement read.

“How Portable and his associates attacked OGPDPA officials is not only bizarre but a disgrace to the state.”

Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to justice, stating that anyone flouting the law would face consequences, regardless of social status or influence.
