Recall Issued for Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix Products
…FDA, National Security intervene over bloated products
Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, producers of the popular Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix, has initiated a recall of certain batches of their product in response to concerns raised by the FDA and National Security regarding bloating issues.
The company, a collaboration between Olam and Sanyo Foods, announced the recall on Thursday and is actively working to retrieve the affected products from the market to ensure consumer safety.
Specifically, the recall includes all 210g and 400g canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products, as well as selected pouches of 380g and 1.05kg with batch numbers between 20072501/P1 and 24072502/P2, set to expire between January 20 and January 24, 2027.
Customers are advised to check their packaging for the batch numbers mentioned and discontinue use if they fall within the affected range. These batch numbers can be located on the back panel of the product.
Following reports of bloating in some products, the FDA had previously halted production of the 210g and 400g canned versions in January for compliance reasons. The current recall underscores the scrutiny on Nutrifoods’ manufacturing processes, with production of the impacted products suspended pending further investigation.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are urged to stop using them immediately, return them to any Nutrifoods distributor or the company’s Tema office, and contact Nutrifoods Ghana at 050 538 4429 or [email protected] for further guidance on replacements.
Jay Jagadip Anjaria, Business Head of Nutrifoods Ghana, expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing the company’s dedication to food safety and quality. He assured that Nutrifoods is cooperating with regulators to address the issue promptly and transparently.
For returns and inquiries, consumers can reach out to Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd. at 17 Dadeban Road, North Industrial Area, Accra, by phone at +233 (0)30 222 2200, or via email at [email protected].
