The Economic State of Ghana: Mahama Accuses NPP of Mismanagement

The former President of Ghana and Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has launched scathing criticism against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of mismanaging all sectors of the country.

During a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Mahama expressed his determination to return as president to rescue Ghanaians from the mess created by the NPP. He highlighted the economic turmoil and rise in poverty levels that have been a result of President Akufo-Addo’s eight-year tenure.

Mahama pointed out the country’s increasing debt, with $11.5 billion borrowed from the Eurobond market in the past five years. He emphasized that this has hindered Ghana’s access to international markets, leading to further economic challenges.

Furthermore, Mahama criticized the NPP for abandoning crucial projects initiated during his administration, particularly in the Ashanti Region. He lamented the deterioration of completed projects funded with public money, such as the Afari Military Hospital, which remains non-operational.

In addition, Mahama raised concerns about the Kejetia Market project, which was commissioned before he left office. Despite funds being approved for Phase II of the project, it remains incomplete, leaving many questioning the reasons behind the delay.

Addressing accusations of engaging in state-sponsored fake news to tarnish his image, Mahama reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to reviewing the Free Senior High School policy if voted into power. He clarified that the party does not intend to cancel the policy but aims to make it more effective for all students.
