Men Sentenced to Prison for West Loop Armed Robbery
Two men have been sentenced to prison for robbing a couple at gunpoint in the West Loop. Simeon Allen, 25, was sentenced to 8 years, while his accomplice, Devonta Thompson, 28, received a 20-year sentence after pleading guilty to armed robbery.
The incident occurred on October 18, 2023, shortly after 9 p.m. in the first block of North Green. Thompson and Allen approached a man and woman with firearms, demanding their purse, wallets, cash, and phones. Thompson pushed the male victim against a car while the woman screamed for help, alerting someone in a nearby apartment.
The couple’s belongings were taken, and the suspects fled to a Chrysler 300 waiting nearby. However, one of the victims memorized the car’s license plate, enabling Chicago police to track the vehicle using license plate readers.
A CPD helicopter located the car as it traveled through the city, leading to a crash in the 100 block of North Hoyne. Three individuals fled from the vehicle, but Thompson and Allen were apprehended by patrol officers. Thompson was found with the Chrysler’s key and the male victim’s credit card, while his phone was discovered under the driver’s seat.
At the time of the robbery, Allen had two prior felony gun convictions, and Thompson had a previous conviction for possessing a stolen motor vehicle in 2019.
Both men have now been sentenced for their involvement in the armed robbery, bringing justice to the victims and ensuring that the perpetrators face consequences for their actions.
