Mastercard Expands Presence in West Africa with New Office in Ghana

Mastercard, a global leader in payment services, has recently opened a new office in Accra, Ghana, as part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in West Africa. The move is expected to not only boost Ghana’s economy but also drive technological innovation and financial inclusion in the region’s fintech sector.

The primary focus of the new office will be to enhance digital payment solutions and increase financial inclusion in West Africa. By establishing a formal presence in Ghana, Mastercard aims to leverage its global expertise and innovative capabilities to introduce advanced payment technologies that cater to the specific needs of African consumers and businesses.

Mark Elliott, Division President for Africa at Mastercard, expressed the company’s commitment to deepening relationships across the region through the opening of the Ghana office. He highlighted the ambitious growth strategy for West Africa and emphasized the importance of serving the unique needs of customers in the market.

The establishment of Mastercard’s office in Ghana is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy by creating employment opportunities and fostering an environment conducive to technological innovation and entrepreneurship. The company has a history of collaborating with local businesses and fintech startups to drive financial inclusion in Africa.

In Ghana, Mastercard has partnered with institutions such as Absa Bank Ghana and the Mastercard Foundation to launch initiatives like the Absa Fintech and Agritech Support Programme. This program provides financial and capacity-building support to micro, small, and medium enterprises, with the aim of creating 50,000 jobs in Ghana.
