Uncertainty looms over Miguel Gamondi’s future at Young Africans (Yanga) in Tanzania
Reports have emerged suggesting that Miguel Gamondi, the head coach of Young Africans (Yanga) in Tanzania, is facing an uncertain future at the club. The Yanga hierarchy is reportedly disappointed with the team’s performance in the Tanzania Premier League.
As the defending champions who clinched the league title last season, Yanga currently find themselves in fourth place on the league table with 21 points from 10 games. They are trailing behind the log leaders, Singida Black Stars, by five points.
The recent 3-1 home defeat to Tabora United marked Yanga’s second consecutive loss, following a 1-0 defeat to Azam FC in their previous match. The string of poor results has raised concerns within the club.
After the defeat to Tabora United, Gamondi was summoned to a meeting to explain the team’s poor run of form. It is understood that some members of the board have recommended that the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Platinum Stars coach be relieved of his duties.
A source from Tanzania revealed, “The decision on whether to retain Gamondi lies with club president Hersi Said, and an announcement is expected soon. However, the situation looks unfavorable for Gamondi at the moment, despite his previous success with Yanga.”
Yanga’s next challenge will be against Singida Black Stars on 21 November after the international break. The question remains whether Gamondi will still be at the helm of the team for that crucial fixture.
