Paris Saint-Germain pulled off a stunning upset at Anfield, defeating Liverpool in a thrilling penalty shootout to advance to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. The French side emerged victorious with a 4-1 win in the shootout, thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who saved two crucial penalties.

The match started with Liverpool on the front foot, but PSG gradually found their rhythm and took the lead in the first half through Ousmane Dembélé. The goal leveled the tie at 1-1 on aggregate and set the stage for a tense battle between the two sides.

Despite Liverpool’s early pressure, PSG dominated large parts of the game and created numerous scoring opportunities. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola came close to extending the lead, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker made some outstanding saves to keep his team in the contest.

With the scoreline still 1-0 after 90 minutes, the match went into extra time, but neither team could find a breakthrough. The game was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout, where Donnarumma’s heroics sealed PSG’s place in the quarter-finals.

The defeat was a bitter blow for Liverpool, especially with the EFL Cup final against Chelsea on the horizon. Manager Arne Slot will need to lift his squad quickly as they look to bounce back and pursue silverware in the remaining competitions.

As for PSG, they will shift their focus to Ligue 1, where they are set to face Marseille in a high-stakes clash. The Parisians will be riding high on confidence following their historic victory at Anfield, as they continue their quest for a maiden Champions League title.
