A tragic incident occurred at Keystone Resort on Tuesday afternoon, as a skier from the Front Range lost his life after crashing into a padded light pole. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the unfortunate news, stating that the man was skiing down the Haywood trail at a high speed when he lost control and veered off the trail, ultimately colliding with the light pole.
Ski patrol immediately sprang into action, initiating life-saving measures before transporting the skier to the Keystone Medical Center. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead upon arrival. Technicians from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, who also serve as deputy coroners, arrived at the scene around 4 p.m. to conduct further investigations.
At this time, there is no indication of foul play or intoxication involved in the incident. The skier was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was the sole individual involved. The Summit County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity, as well as the cause and manner of his untimely death.
