Disney Completes Purchase of Hulu, Acquiring Full Ownership
Disney has officially completed its acquisition of Hulu, purchasing NBCUniversal’s stake in the streaming service for an additional $438.7 million. This transaction now gives Disney complete ownership of Hulu, paving the way for a closer integration with the Disney+ streaming service and ESPN’s upcoming direct-to-consumer offering, according to CEO Bob Iger.
In 2019, Comcast agreed to sell Disney its 33% stake in Hulu, following Disney’s majority stake acquisition of the streaming service as part of the $71 billion takeover of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets. This agreement established a $27.5 billion floor valuation for Hulu and involved a third-party appraisal to determine the final valuation.
