Zambia U17 Women National Team coach Carol Kanyemba has announced a 34-member provisional squad for the upcoming COSAFA Under-17 Girls Championship 2024, set to take place in Maputo from December 5-15.

The squad includes eight players who were part of the Copper Princesses team that represented Zambia at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic. Most of these players have since progressed to the U20 level.

Zambia has been placed in Group C for the tournament, where they will face Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mauritius. The hosts, Mozambique, are in Group A alongside Comoros, Eswatini, and Lesotho, while Group B features South Africa, Malawi, Namibia, and Madagascar.

The provisional squad consists of goalkeepers Loveness Chingwele, Mary Nyangu, Bukata Kakumbi, Anita Chomba, and Winfrida Mutale. The defensive line-up includes players like Nana Mulanda, Precious Mwape, Esther Ngabwe, Tabitha Nyirenda, Beatrice Njovu, Theresa Mubiana, Mercy Chikokola, Ireen Mweemba, Precious Mwewa, Mercy Pelete, and Ireen Mweemba.

In midfield, the team boasts talents like Taonga Mubanga, Lillian Mweenda, Natasha Kasema, Tricia Mabamba, Hellen Misozi Banda, Grace Phiri, Faith Kaunda, Gift Chisha, Janet Chirwa, Taonga Tembo, and Gladys Mwansa. The striking department includes Mercy Chipasula, Lweendo Hanongo, Caroline Nsondo, Esther Makoti, Patricia Mwanza, Masela Sekeseke, Sara Mwanza, and Ruth Mukoma.

With a blend of experienced players and promising young talents, Zambia will be looking to make a mark at the COSAFA Under-17 Girls Championship 2024. Coach Carol Kanyemba will be hoping that her squad can showcase their skills and compete at the highest level during the tournament in Maputo.
