South African actress Michelle Botes passed away on Saturday morning after a brave battle with cancer. She was 63 years old. Botes, best known for her role as Cherel de Villiers in ‘Isidingo’, was a talented actress who left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

Botes’ talent agency, Oh Talent Management, confirmed the news of her passing on social media, paying tribute to her commitment to her craft and the light she brought to those around her. Throughout her career, Botes also appeared in other popular shows such as ‘Binnelanders’ and ‘The Legacy’.

In a recent interview with Bruis magazine, Botes revealed that she had been battling with myeloma, a form of cancer that affects the bone marrow, for the past two-and-a-half years. Despite undergoing chemotherapy initially, she made the decision to stop treatment to maintain her sense of self and quality of life.

The news of Botes’ passing has led to an outpouring of condolences from fans, colleagues, and industry peers. The South African Film and Television Awards expressed deep sadness at her passing, recognizing her legacy and the impact she had on the industry. Political leader Mmusi Maimane described Botes as an icon, thanking her for her commitment and passion over the years.

Rise Mzansi, a political party, acknowledged Botes for leaving an indelible mark on television and storytelling through her iconic roles. Comedian Marc Lottering also paid tribute to Botes, highlighting her strength and resilience in the face of adversity.

Michelle Botes’ legacy as a talented actress and beloved personality will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and admired her work. Her passing is a loss to the South African entertainment industry, but her memory will live on through her unforgettable performances and the impact she made on audiences worldwide.
