In a series of alarming posts on social media platform X, General Kainerugaba claimed responsibility for the detention of opposition leader Bobi Wine’s bodyguard, Eddie Mutwe, and even went as far as threatening to castrate him. The general posted a disturbing image of Mutwe undressed and with his beard shaved off, stating that he was holding him in his basement and that Wine would be his next target.
These threatening statements by General Kainerugaba have sparked outrage among Ugandans, leading to increased tensions in the country. With President Museveni expected to seek a seventh term in office in the upcoming elections in 2026, the oppressive environment and menacing tone of his son’s actions are causing widespread concern. Former allies of the president have warned that such behavior could have dire consequences and potentially lead to a significant upheaval in the country.
