Aaliyah Cain, an 18-year-old woman, is currently facing first-degree murder charges after allegedly firing a single shot that resulted in the death of Mychal Evans, the driver of the car involved in a traffic crash. The incident took place in the 10500 block of South State on July 6, 2024.
According to prosecutors, Cain was a passenger in a car with three other individuals when their vehicle collided with Evans’ car. The impact of the crash left their car immobilized, prompting all four occupants to exit the vehicle. Feeling threatened, Evans attempted to flee the scene by making a U-turn.
It was at this point that Cain allegedly pulled out a gun and fired a single shot, striking Evans in the upper left side of his chest. Tragically, Evans succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident.
During a court hearing, Judge James Murphy ordered Cain’s detention based on testimonies from the three individuals who were in the car with her. Additionally, evidence such as phone data, video footage, and Cain’s own admissions reportedly placed her at the scene of the crime.
