Mikel Arteta Aims for Arsenal to be “Kings of Everything” After Set-Piece Success
After a stunning display of set-piece prowess in their recent victory over Manchester United, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has set his sights on making his team the best in every aspect of the game.
Arsenal secured a 2-0 win against Manchester United on Wednesday, with both goals coming from corners. This victory catapulted Arsenal to the top of the charts with 22 goals from corners this season, surpassing all other teams in the top five leagues in Europe by five goals.
Following the match, former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov likened Arsenal to the legendary set-piece specialists Stoke City, who dominated the Premier League for a decade with their prowess in dead-ball situations.
Arteta, however, took Berbatov’s comparison as a compliment and expressed his ambitions for Arsenal in a passionate speech on Friday.
“We want to be the kings of everything,” Arteta declared. “On set pieces, the best in the world; on high press, the best in the world; attacking in open spaces, the best in the world.
“Best atmosphere and stadium – the best at everything.
“Before it was we didn’t score enough, we didn’t challenge, we didn’t win big games for 20 years. We want to be the best at everything.”
Arsenal currently sits seven points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and is riding a wave of success with four consecutive wins. The return of defenders Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori to full fitness adds to the team’s strength as they prepare for their upcoming clash with Fulham on Sunday.
