‘People will always have opinions about how the story should have been told,’ says Sjava
The highly anticipated Season 2 of the popular series Shaka ilembe is set to make its debut on Sunday, 15 June, at 8pm on Mzansi Magic.
In an exclusive interview, we caught up with the talented musician and actor Jabulani Hadebe, best known as Sjava, who portrayed the character of King Dingiswayo in the first season of the show.
King Dingiswayo, a significant historical figure, was the leader of the Mthethwa Paramountcy and played a pivotal role in shaping the early life of Shaka Zulu.
Reflecting on his role, Sjava shared his thoughts on the audience’s reaction to the portrayal of historical events in the series.
“People often forget that as actors, we are interpreting a script and portraying the characters as written. It is impossible to capture every detail and nuance of historical events in a single show,” Sjava explained.
He continued, “People will always have opinions on how the story should have been told, which is why there are multiple adaptations of Shaka Zulu’s life. Each interpretation offers a unique perspective on the legendary figure.”
