Record High Number of Ugandan Students Studying in the United States

As the Open Doors® 2024 Report on International Educational Exchange celebrates its 75th anniversary, it is exciting to announce a record high number of Ugandan students studying in the United States. The academic year of 2023/2024 saw a 19.8% increase in Ugandan students, rising from 1,088 to 1,303. This significant growth positions Uganda among the top emerging senders of international students to the United States from Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Open Doors® 2024 Report revealed that the total number of international students in U.S. colleges and universities reached an all-time high of over 1.1 million (1,126,690) in 2023/2024, marking a 7% increase from the previous academic year. This milestone coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Open Doors Report, a renowned benchmark for international educational exchange in the United States. The report is published by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and the Institute of International Education (IIE).

The U.S. Mission in Uganda, particularly the EducationUSA team based at American Center Kampala, remains committed to supporting Uganda’s talented individuals and ensuring that the United States remains a top choice for global education. Students interested in studying in the U.S. can contact Kampala@EducationUSA.org for more information and guidance.
