Liverpool showcased an exceptional performance on Wednesday night, securing a remarkable 2-0 victory against Real Madrid at Anfield. This win marked a significant breakthrough for the Reds, as they ended their eight-match winless streak against the Spanish giants.

The game saw goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo, with both players delivering standout performances in the electrifying Champions League clash.

The first half was intense, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Liverpool came close to opening the scoring when Darwin Núñez’s shot was saved by Thibaut Courtois, and Raul Alaba made a crucial goal-line clearance to deny an own goal scare.

Despite Real Madrid threatening on the counterattack, they struggled to create clear-cut chances against Liverpool’s solid defense.

The deadlock was finally broken early in the second half, as Mac Allister capitalized on a loose ball in the box to fire a shot into the bottom corner, giving Liverpool the lead.

Real Madrid had a chance to equalize when Lucas Vázquez won a penalty, but Kylian Mbappé’s attempt was expertly saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.

Liverpool had an opportunity to extend their lead after being awarded a penalty of their own, but Mohamed Salah missed the target with his shot.

However, Gakpo sealed the victory for Liverpool in the 76th minute, heading in a precise cross from Andy Robertson to secure the win.

Despite their efforts, Real Madrid, the record 15-time winners of the Champions League, were unable to mount a comeback against Liverpool at Anfield.

Looking ahead, Liverpool will maintain their position at the top of their Champions League group and are set to face Girona in their next fixture. Real Madrid, on the other hand, will face a crucial match against Atalanta as they aim to revive their campaign in the competition.
