Daytime Robberies in West Town Leave Two Women Victimized

Two women fell victim to separate but potentially related daytime muggings in the West Town neighborhood on Sunday. The incidents have raised concerns about public safety in the area.

The first robbery occurred near the intersection of Kinzie and Green streets around 10:40 a.m. At least three suspects assaulted a woman and stole her purse. Witnesses reported seeing the robbers flee the scene in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with a loud muffler.

Shortly after, a Chicago Police Department license plate reader tracked the Jeep to the 1500 block of West Division Street. Around 12:30 p.m., another woman, aged 42, was robbed just half a mile away.

The second victim was walking on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of North Paulina Street when a thin Black male pushed her to the ground and took her purse. The suspect was described as wearing a black hoodie and a gray shirt.

Robbery incidents in West Town have been a cause for concern, with reports soaring during the pandemic. However, there has been a significant decrease this year, with robberies down by at least 40% in the two police districts that cover the area.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help prevent further incidents.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by a group of residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the quality of information provided at local Community Policing meetings. Our coverage has since expanded to include various North Side areas, with a focus on original public safety reporting and in-depth analysis.
