Costco Recalls BowFlex 552 Adjustable Dumbbells Due to Safety Hazard
A recent recall has been issued for a set of dumbbells that were once sold at Costco. Johnson Health Tech Trading and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary recall of the BowFlex 552 adjustable dumbbells due to reports that the weight plates can dislodge from the handle during use, posing an impact hazard.
Not only are the BowFlex 552 adjustable dumbbells affected, but also the BowFlex 1090 adjustable dumbbells. These products were sold at various retailers including Costco, Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and online through Amazon and BowFlex’s website.
According to the CPSC, nearly 4 million units are involved in the recall. BowFlex Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection in March 2024, and Johnson Health Tech Trading has agreed to provide a remedy for the recalled dumbbells sold by BowFlex Inc. (formerly Nautilus Inc.) prior to May 2024.
Reports have indicated that there have been over 350 incidents of plates dislodging from the dumbbells, resulting in at least 111 reported injuries such as concussions, abrasions, broken toes, or contusions.

If you have purchased BowFlex 552 dumbbells from Costco, it is advised to stop using them immediately and return them to the store for a full refund.
For consumers who bought the recalled dumbbells from other retailers, they should contact the Johnson Health Tech Trading Customer Support Team at 800-209-3539 or email recall@bowflex.com for assistance.
Customers who purchased units from BowFlex Inc. can request a refund in the form of a prorated voucher and a one-year JRNY digital fitness membership.
