Federal agents made headlines this week with the arrests of two confirmed members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua in Aurora. Carl Luis Zambrano-Bolivar, 26, and Jhonata Nahin Toro Gonzalez, 22, both Venezuelan immigrants residing in the United States without authorization, were taken into custody on Sept. 26 by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The arrests were made in connection with allegations of murder and aggravated kidnapping.
Another alleged member of the Tren de Aragua gang, Ehiker Morales Mendoza, 38, was apprehended on Oct. 11 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mendoza’s arrest was also linked to the suspected murder of 33-year-old Nilzuly Enrique Arneaud-Petit in north Texas.
Travis Pickard, acting special agent in charge of ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations division in Dallas, emphasized the collaborative effort of law enforcement agencies in tracking down and apprehending these fugitives across state lines. The successful arrests send a strong message that authorities are unified in their mission to dismantle violent criminal networks and combat the lawlessness they perpetuate.
The authorities intend to extradite Zambrano-Bolivar, Gonzalez, and Mendoza to Texas for prosecution in relation to the homicide case. Meanwhile, a fourth wanted gang member, Jhonny Jesus Martinez Serrano, 29, remains at large.
Members of the public are encouraged to provide any information on Martinez Serrano’s whereabouts to ICE anonymously by contacting investigators at 1-877-447-4847.
