The US Open is in full swing at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, and South African golfers are making their mark on the tournament. Thriston Lawrence, playing in his debut season on the PGA Tour, had an impressive start with an opening round of 67, placing him in second place at three-under-par. American JJ Spaun currently holds the lead after shooting a 66 in the first round.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout also had a solid start with a 72, tying him for 33rd place. Jacques Kruyswijk, in his Major debut, performed well with a 73, putting him in a tie for 49th. Erik van Rooyen, on the other hand, struggled a bit with an opening round of 75, placing him in a tie for 79th.

The challenging course at Oakmont Country Club proved to be difficult for many players, with top names like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau posting over-par scores. As the tournament progresses, Friday’s second round will be crucial for those looking to secure a spot in weekend play.

Lawrence, who had a strong back nine, expressed confidence in his game after the round. Despite a double bogey on the ninth hole, he managed to bounce back with three birdies on the back nine, finishing with a solid 67.

Looking ahead to the second round on Friday, Lawrence and the other South African golfers will be focused on maintaining their momentum and climbing up the leaderboard. Fans can follow all the action on the official PGA Tour leaderboard.

Overall, the South African contingent at the US Open is off to a promising start, and they will be looking to continue their strong performances throughout the tournament. Stay tuned for more updates as the competition heats up at Oakmont Country Club.
