A Texas mother, Teresa Isabel Bernal, is facing charges of reckless bodily injury to a child after allegedly serving alcoholic Jell-O shots at her daughter’s fifth-grade class Christmas party. The incident took place on December 20th at the elementary school in Tyler.
Bernal was arrested on Monday following reports from the assistant principal that a parent had brought gelatin shots containing alcohol to the class party. One student even reported vomiting twice, while another said they “passed out.” Another student mentioned feeling dizzy and unable to stand up after consuming six shots.
Two teachers who sampled the Jell-O shots also suspected they contained alcohol, according to an arrest affidavit. When questioned by police, Bernal claimed that the Jell-O came from a local sweet shop and that she was unaware it contained alcohol.
