The African National Congress Upholds Expulsion of Jacob Zuma
The African National Congress (ANC) has made a firm decision to uphold the expulsion of former leader Jacob Zuma, rejecting his appeal to overturn the expulsion. Zuma was expelled from the party in July for establishing a rival political party, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK), which contested against the ANC during the general elections in May. Despite his appeal and requests to defend himself in person and make the party’s internal disciplinary processes public, the ANC stood by its decision to expel Zuma.
In a statement released by the ANC, the party criticized Zuma’s actions, stating that they undermined the party’s efforts to renew itself. The ANC accused Zuma of disloyalty and condemned his behavior as “the highest form of ill-discipline.” Despite being a formal member of the ANC, Zuma had actively campaigned for MK, which resulted in the new party winning 58 parliamentary seats.
This decision by the ANC highlights the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and unity within its ranks. By upholding Zuma’s expulsion, the ANC sends a clear message that actions contrary to the party’s values will not be tolerated.
