Deputy President Shipokosa Paulus Mashatile is set to embark on a working visit to Tokyo, Japan from 16th to 19th March 2025. The purpose of this visit is to strengthen the already robust cooperation between South Africa and Japan in various areas of mutual interest.
South Africa and Japan have a longstanding diplomatic relationship, with 2025 marking 115 years of bilateral ties. This visit by the Deputy President highlights South Africa’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the partnership with Japan.
During his time in Tokyo, Deputy President Mashatile and his delegation will engage with the Japanese Government and key private sector stakeholders. The focus will be on advancing South Africa’s key economic growth drivers, including manufactured-led growth and increasing exports from the country.
Accompanying the Deputy President on this important visit are several ministers and deputy ministers from various sectors. These include the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Tandi Moraka; the Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Mr Gayton McKenzie; the Minister of Higher Education, Dr Nobuhle Nkabane; the Minister of Agriculture, Mr John Steenhuisen; the Minister of Trade Industry and Competition, Mr Parks Tau; and the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms Nomalungelo Gina.
This delegation reflects the diverse range of interests and priorities that South Africa aims to address during the visit to Japan. The focus will be on fostering stronger economic ties, exploring opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, and promoting South Africa as a key player in the global market.
