Following a daring cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in Vanderbijlpark, police have swiftly apprehended six suspects in connection with the robbery. The incident took place as the CIT cash van was loading money at an ATM, only to be ambushed by the armed suspects.
According to Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, the suspects brandished a rifle and a pistol, threatening the security guards before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Fortunately, no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported during the heist.
Upon receiving information about the robbery, law enforcement officers sprang into action, tracing the suspects to a house in Evaton. A coordinated effort involving the Sedibeng K9 unit, Public Order Policing, and CIT task team led to the arrest of the six suspects. Additionally, two vehicles believed to have been used in the crime were seized, along with three pistols, one rifle, five cellphones, and the stolen money.
All six suspects are set to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The swift response and successful apprehension of the suspects were commended by Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni.
Meanwhile, authorities are also investigating a shooting incident at the Solo restaurant in Sandton, where three individuals lost their lives and four others sustained injuries. According to police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili, preliminary investigations suggest that a man attempted to enter the restaurant with his bodyguards while carrying a firearm, in violation of the establishment’s no firearm policy.
During the investigation, police seized four firearms, including two high-caliber rifles. The case remains under scrutiny as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident at the Sandton restaurant.
