Wainstein was shot dead in his Constantia home, allegedly by two hitmen who were instructed by Lifman to kill him for a R10 million reward.
Lifman, who dubbed himself the “king of the underworld”, reportedly had a long-standing feud with Wainstein, who had threatened to expose Lifman’s alleged criminal activities.
The two hitmen in the Wainstein case, Matthew Pansegrouw and Sheldon Beukes, were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2020 for the murder.
Murder conspiracy claims
According to sources close to the case, Freitag’s murder is believed to be linked to a conspiracy between Lubbe, Oosthuizen, and a third party to eliminate the former high jumper after he reportedly became a liability following the alleged hit on Harmse.
The motive behind Freitag’s murder is still being investigated but sources have revealed that authorities suspect it was for financial gain or to silence him.
More details about the case are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
