Subedar says Sahpra has indicated that it could register the medicine as early as October, but she cautions that this is dependent on the regulator receiving all necessary paperwork from Gilead Sciences and the other generics manufacturers.
“We still need to see the finalised guidance on preparing for the LEN roll-out,” Subedar says. “We need to plan for the roll-out and procurement of the medicine, but we can’t do this until we have a registered product.”
She adds: “We also need to see the final guidance on who should receive the medicine and how we will monitor for side effects and effectiveness.”
Registration documents for LEN were submitted to Sahpra by Gilead and the generics manufacturers in June, says Subedar.
“We know that Sahpra has been working hard to review the data for the medicine, but, of course, we can’t rush the process.”
