The Biden administration has come under fire for allegedly instructing Border Patrol officials to withhold information about arrests of illegal border crossers with ties to terrorism. Retired San Diego Border Patrol Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke testified before a U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security about the significant increase in “Significant Interest Aliens” (SIAs) entering the country illegally.

Heitke revealed that prior to the Biden administration, the San Diego sector typically saw 10 to 15 SIAs per year. However, under the current administration, that number skyrocketed to over 100 in 2022, and even more in subsequent years. He also mentioned that the actual number might be even higher due to the presence of “gotaways,” individuals who cross the border illegally without being apprehended.

Furthermore, Heitke claimed that he was prohibited from releasing any information about the increase in SIAs or the arrests made. He suggested that the administration was downplaying the security threat at the border to the public. This revelation comes at a time when a record number of individuals on the federal terrorist watch list have been apprehended under the Biden-Harris administration.

Heitke emphasized that enforcing existing federal laws is crucial in deterring illegal immigration. He noted that sending individuals back to their country of origin is a key deterrent, as mandated by current law. However, he pointed out that the Biden-Harris administration has been moving away from this approach, leading to a surge in illegal entries.

The consequences of the administration’s policies were felt on the ground, with Border Patrol agents being overwhelmed by the influx of illegal aliens. Heitke described instances where entire sectors were left unmanned for weeks or months, allowing foreign nationals to enter the country undetected. The lack of information on the millions of “gotaways” raised concerns about national security and potential threats posed by individuals with ties to terrorism.

In conclusion, Heitke’s testimony highlighted the challenges faced by Border Patrol agents due to the Biden administration’s immigration policies. The failure to enforce existing laws and secure the border has resulted in a significant national security risk. It remains to be seen how the administration will address these concerns and ensure the safety and security of the country’s borders.
