Arrest Made in Nkwanta Following Joint Police and Military Operation

A collaborative effort between the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces led to the apprehension of a suspect and the confiscation of illegal firearms in Nkwanta on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Key Details:

  • The operation targeted individuals believed to be involved in recent violent incidents in the Nkwanta region.
  • Commencing at 6:15 PM (1815 hours), security forces conducted a targeted raid in an area known for criminal activity.
  • Two single-barrel guns and four AAA cartridges were recovered from the residence of suspect Francis Donkor, 50.
  • Donkor was taken into custody and is currently assisting with investigations.
  • The seized firearms and ammunition will serve as crucial evidence in the ongoing probe.

Background:

The Nkwanta area, situated in the Oti Region, has been plagued by longstanding chieftaincy and land disputes, often resulting in violent clashes and community unrest.

The joint operation underscores the authorities’ commitment to upholding peace and security in the region, emphasizing the strict enforcement of laws prohibiting the unauthorized possession and use of firearms.

Residents are urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activities that may threaten public safety.
