The call for the integration of agriculture into Ghana’s basic education curriculum has been echoed by the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, John Dumelo. During the graduation ceremony of Brain Hill International School in East Legon, Mr. Dumelo emphasized the importance of nurturing children in agriculture from an early age. He urged school authorities to restructure the curriculum to spark children’s interest in agriculture, believing that this would help them envision a future career in the field.
School leaders also emphasized the role of parents in this initiative. Mary Anane Awuku, the Managing Director of the school, highlighted the importance of parents being active participants in their children’s growth, both at home and in the classroom. The Principal of the school, Awel Rahamani, called for a more well-rounded approach to education, one that focuses on emotional intelligence, adaptability, and moral grounding alongside academic performance.
The graduation ceremony was a celebration of community, purpose, and potential, with a diverse audience of parents, educators, policymakers, and well-wishers in attendance. Pupils graduated from various levels, showcasing the school’s commitment to academic excellence and character formation. Prominent individuals like Sammi Awuku, MP for Akuapem North, and representatives from the Ministry of Education and Agriculture added depth to the occasion with their calls for more purpose-driven education.
Brain Hill International School continues to expand its footprint, with new campuses in East Legon and Weija, providing more children access to its blend of academic and life-skills education. The event highlighted the importance of integrating agriculture into the education curriculum and fostering a holistic approach to learning that prepares students for success in an ever-changing job market.
