The FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list has seen a significant development with the arrest of Arnoldo Jimenez, who was accused of killing his wife just hours after their wedding in 2012. Jimenez, a resident of Illinois, was apprehended in Monterrey, Mexico, and extradition proceedings are already underway to bring him back to the United States.
Douglas DePodesta, the special agent-in-charge of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office, expressed gratitude to the Burbank Police Department, law enforcement partners in Mexico, and the public for their collaborative efforts in capturing Jimenez. He emphasized the FBI’s commitment to using all available resources to ensure that criminals are brought to justice, regardless of how much time has passed or where they may be located.
The tragic incident occurred on May 12, 2012, when Jimenez allegedly fatally stabbed his wife, Estrella Carrera, just one day after their wedding. The murder is believed to have taken place inside Jimenez’s black 2006 Maserati, after which he transported Carrera’s body to her apartment in Burbank, Illinois, where he left it in a bathtub. Shockingly, Carrera was discovered with her wedding dress still on.
Jimenez, 42, was wanted on an arrest warrant for first-degree murder issued on May 15, 2012, and was later federally charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Deputy Chief William Casey of the Burbank Police Department commended the collaborative efforts of the FBI and local law enforcement in bringing Jimenez to justice, stating that their dedication was aimed at securing justice for Estrella Carrera and her family.
The capture of Arnoldo Jimenez marks the 522nd person to be named to the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list since its inception in 1950. It remains unclear whether anyone will claim the $250,000 reward offered by the FBI for information leading to his arrest. The successful apprehension of Jimenez serves as a reminder of the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to seek justice and hold perpetrators of heinous crimes accountable.
