In the bustling heart of Abidjan, where the Plateau region meets the serene waters of the Ébrié Lagoon, a striking new addition to the city’s skyline has emerged.

The Noom Hotel Abidjan Plateau, designed by renowned architecture firm Saota, is more than just a luxurious hotel—it is a modern interpretation of Abidjan’s rich architectural heritage. Often referred to as the “Paris of West Africa,” Abidjan has long been a hub of architectural innovation, with modernist structures symbolizing progress and cultural identity.

The Noom Hotel’s 22-storey tower stands as a contemporary continuation of this legacy, blending seamlessly with the urban landscape while looking towards the future. Commissioned by Teyliom Hospitality, the hotel aims to offer high-end African hospitality that competes on a global scale while staying true to its West African roots.

Saota, known for its ability to merge site-specific design with cultural context, was tasked with creating a 179-key hotel that embodies luxury and cosmopolitan charm while celebrating its African identity. The design process was complex, requiring a delicate balance between modernity and tradition.

The façade of the Noom Hotel reflects this balance, with asymmetrical windows and contemporary finishes inspired by local craftsmanship. The design harmoniously combines traditional elements with a modern architectural language, paying homage to mid-20th-century modernism.

One of the key challenges faced by Saota was adapting the hotel’s open and expansive feel to a vertical format within the dense urban landscape of the Plateau region. The solution was to centralize the social functions on the seventh floor, offering guests stunning views of the lagoon while enjoying dining and entertainment spaces.

The hotel’s triple-volume entry serves as a grand gateway to a range of facilities, including conference spaces and accommodation. The design also takes into account Abidjan’s tropical climate, with the tower clad in an aluminium rain-screen to reduce heat gain and energy consumption.

The Noom Hotel Abidjan Plateau is a testament to the power of architecture in shaping experience and identity. It seamlessly blends Cote d’Ivoire’s cultural context with global architectural trends, creating a modernist beacon for a new era in Abidjan’s evolving landscape. As the city continues to grow and transform, the Noom Hotel stands as a symbol of Abidjan’s place in the world—a fusion of tradition and innovation in the heart of West Africa.
