China Supports Education in Namibia with the Opening of Hoachanas Library
On November 8, 2024, Minister Counsellor Shen Jian represented the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Namibia at the opening ceremony of the Hoachanas library in the Hardap Region. Ambassador Zhao Weiping’s congratulatory messages were read during the event, which was also graced by the presence of Hon. Yvonne Dausab, Minister of Justice. The ceremony saw the attendance of approximately 150 individuals, including officials from the Hardap Regional Council, local educators, students, and residents, with coverage by the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation.
In his messages, Ambassador Zhao highlighted the strong bilateral ties between China and Namibia, referencing the successful meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Nangolo Mbumba at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He reiterated China’s commitment to supporting Namibia’s social and economic growth.
Minister Dausab commended the longstanding friendship between the two nations and acknowledged the collaborative efforts that led to the establishment of the Hoachanas library. The construction of the library was made possible through a small grant from the Chinese Embassy, the Ministry of Justice, and the Bank of Namibia. She expressed gratitude towards the Chinese Embassy for their contribution to local education and encouraged the community, especially students, to utilize the resources available at the library.
