The tragic car crash on July 6, 2024, that took the lives of Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson and his two high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr., has taken a new turn as the woman involved, Cori Clingman, has been indicted on 13 counts, including DUI and criminally negligent vehicular manslaughter. The Prince George’s County prosecutors announced the charges nearly seven months after the fatal accident.
Clingman, who was arrested on Thursday, is facing a maximum of 30 years in prison for her role in the crash. State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy expressed the loss of three promising young lives and emphasized the impact it had on their families and the community. The crash occurred in the early hours of the morning when Clingman’s Infinity Q50 collided with a Dodge Charger carrying the three young men and a Chevrolet Impala.
The Charger veered off the road and struck multiple stumps, resulting in the deaths of Jackson and Hazel at the scene, while Lytton succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Reports suggest that the cars were involved in street racing prior to the tragic incident. Investigations revealed that Clingman had a blood alcohol content above the legal limit at the time of the crash.
Hazel had played football at Maryland and Charlotte, while Lytton had been part of the Florida State and Penn State football programs. Jackson, a fourth-round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, had been gearing up for his rookie season with the Vikings, participating in offseason activities.
The community, including their respective schools and the NFL, has been deeply affected by the loss of these young athletes. A vigil was held to honor their lives, and efforts are underway to seek justice for the victims and their families. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the importance of road safety for everyone.
