The Maradona Foundation: Honoring a Football Legend
The children of football legend Diego Maradona have announced plans to establish a foundation that will celebrate the legacy of their iconic father. The foundation, named the “M10 Memorial,” is set to be unveiled in 2025 in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The foundation aims to create a space where fans and admirers of Maradona can come together to pay tribute to his life and achievements. The memorial site, situated in the popular district of Puerto Madero, is expected to welcome up to one million visitors annually.
During a live broadcast on YouTube, Maradona’s daughter, Dalma Maradona, expressed the family’s desire to keep their father’s memory alive and allow people to show their love and appreciation for him. She emphasized the importance of creating a place where individuals can come and honor Maradona by leaving flowers and messages of remembrance.
One of the unique features of the M10 Memorial is the “heritage wall,” where individuals who support the Maradona Foundation will have the opportunity to have their picture displayed as a symbol of their contribution to preserving Maradona’s legacy.
In a recent development, a judge has granted permission to move Maradona’s remains from a cemetery to a mausoleum at the new memorial site. This decision will allow fans, locals, and tourists alike to visit the mausoleum and pay their respects to the football icon, often referred to as “Argentina’s great idol.”
Diego Maradona passed away in November 2020 at the age of 60, following complications from brain surgery to address a blood clot. His battle with addiction to cocaine and alcohol was well-documented over the years, culminating in his untimely death. He was found lifeless in a rented home in Buenos Aires, where he was recuperating post-surgery, with the cause of death attributed to a heart attack.
A legal investigation is currently underway to determine if any negligence on the part of Maradona’s medical team played a role in his tragic passing.
