A recent shooting outside a River North pizzeria left a man injured after a fight escalated on Friday evening. According to Chicago police, the 36-year-old victim was shot in the left forearm by another man during the altercation on the sidewalk in the 400 block of North Wells around 7:05 p.m. Fortunately, the victim is said to be in good condition following the incident.

The shooting took place outside a busy Lou Malnati’s location, where diners were enjoying the start of the weekend. Witnesses reported that the gunman, described as a Black male wearing a khaki t-shirt and a red backpack, fled towards the Loop on a black E-bike after firing the shots.

This incident adds to the growing number of shootings on the Near North Side this year, with a total of 13 reported so far. Comparing this to previous year-to-date totals, there has been an increase from 11 at this point last year. In the River North neighborhood specifically, seven people have been shot this year, surpassing the numbers from previous years.

CWBChicago includes various categories of gunshot incidents in its tally, such as accidental self-inflicted injuries, police-involved shootings, and self-defense incidents, all of which account for one or fewer incidents in each total provided.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. While the coverage area has expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas, the mission of the platform remains focused on delivering original public safety reporting with comprehensive context and detail compared to mainstream media outlets.
