Trigmatic, a Ghanaian artist, recently shared his experience of turning down a record label deal in the UK early in his career. The label had promised him glamour and success, but upon closer inspection, Trigmatic realized that the deal would have cost him ownership of the masters to his debut album ‘Permanent Stains.’

In an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A to Z, Trigmatic emphasized the importance of carefully considering record label deals as they can sometimes limit an artist’s creative freedom and career growth. He recounted how he was flown to the UK to visit the label’s studios, as they were impressed with his rising popularity, especially with his hit song ‘My Life.’

The label, which had renowned global artists on their roster, presented Trigmatic with a contract that would have required him to relocate and commit to a long-term agreement. Despite initially being tempted to sign the deal, Trigmatic decided to seek legal advice from his lawyer. Upon reviewing the contract, his lawyer pointed out several red flags and potential pitfalls that Trigmatic would have faced if he had signed the deal.

Although Trigmatic initially felt disappointed with his lawyer’s advice and even avoided him for a period, he now acknowledges that it was a wise decision to reject the deal. Looking back, he realizes that rushing into such agreements based on glamour and fame may not always lead to long-term success and fulfillment in the music industry.

Reflecting on his 15 years in the music industry, Trigmatic expressed gratitude for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped his career. He recently released a book on leadership titled ‘A Lion’s Aide’ and continues to create music that resonates with his fans. With five albums to his credit, including popular songs like ‘My Jolley’, ‘Mefri Ghana’, and ‘Gye Nyame’, Trigmatic remains a respected and influential figure in the Ghanaian music scene.

As Trigmatic celebrates his journey and milestones in the industry, his story serves as a reminder to aspiring artists to carefully consider their options and prioritize their long-term goals and artistic integrity over short-term gains. By staying true to his values and vision, Trigmatic has carved out a successful career on his own terms, setting an inspiring example for the next generation of musicians.
