Man Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison for Shooting at Concealed Carry Holder’s Car at Chicago McDonald’s
A man, identified as Giovanni Castanon, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after he opened fire on a concealed carry holder’s car at a McDonald’s in Chicago. The incident took place at a McDonald’s parking lot on 106th Street near the Indiana state line in July 2022.
Castanon, 21, had three felony cases pending in juvenile court at the time of the incident. He approached the victim’s car outside the restaurant and began yelling at the 49-year-old concealed carry holder and the victim’s 11-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat. Castanon, wearing a mask, pulled out a gun and fired several shots at the car, prompting the licensed gun owner to return fire.
As Castanon ran away, he continued to fire shots towards the car. Police later found him in a nearby residential garage with gunshot wounds to his hand, arm, and foot. The gun used by Castanon was never recovered by investigators.
Despite multiple bullet holes on the victim’s car, neither the concealed carry holder nor his daughter were injured in the incident. The entire altercation was captured by the restaurant’s security cameras.
Castanon pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm towards an occupied vehicle before Judge Natosha Toller. Seven other felony charges, including four counts of attempted murder, were dropped by prosecutors.
He is required to serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for release. The outcomes of Castanon’s three pending juvenile cases remain undisclosed as those court records are not available for public review.
