Five suspects were involved in two separate gun battles with police in KwaZulu-Natal, resulting in their deaths. The incidents took place in Inanda on Friday, 20 June 2025.
In the first encounter, police received information about the location of a wanted suspect and managed to corner him along the Etafuleni main road. The suspect, who was wanted for murder, attempted murder, and business robbery, opened fire at the officers, leading to a shootout. Unfortunately, the suspect was shot and killed during the exchange, but he was found in possession of a firearm.
In a separate incident, police acted on intelligence regarding suspects wanted for murder, attempted murder, and house robberies in the Inanda area. The suspects were located at cottages on Dr Langalibalele Road, where they immediately started shooting at the approaching officers. In the ensuing gunfight, four suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Three firearms with filed-off serial numbers were recovered from the suspects. Thankfully, no police officers were injured during both incidents.
Earlier in the week, two suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting of an elderly couple in a road rage incident at a shopping mall in Rustenburg, North West province. The arrests were made possible through diligent crime intelligence work, which led to the identification, location, and tracking of the vehicle used by the suspects to flee the scene. The vehicle was eventually found and seized in Ndamoyi, Boitekong.
These recent incidents highlight the dangers faced by law enforcement officials in their pursuit of justice and the apprehension of dangerous criminals. The successful operations demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in combating crime and ensuring the safety of communities.
