Ghana’s High Commissioner Calls for Immediate Arrest in Sexual Abuse Case
Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Mrs. Sabah Zita Benson, has demanded the immediate arrest of a 69-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a minor for a decade.
The diplomat’s call to action came after watching a distressing interview on a local Ghanaian TV channel, where a 17-year-old girl claimed the abuse began when she was just seven years old.
Benson took to Facebook to express her outrage after the accused reportedly confessed to the timeline of abuse. “Ministry of Gender, this man must be apprehended. Ah!” she wrote, adding angry emojis to emphasize her point. Her public outcry sheds light on the seriousness of the allegations.
If proven true, the man’s actions would amount to numerous offenses under Ghana’s child protection laws, including statutory rape. While authorities have not confirmed an investigation yet, the High Commissioner’s vocal stance increases pressure for legal repercussions.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges in eradicating child exploitation despite Ghana’s efforts to strengthen its laws in recent years.
