Joe Walsh, a former Tea Party congressman and right-wing radio host who has now become a Never Trumper, is considering a major move to South Carolina. He is contemplating a run as a Democratic Senate candidate against Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
Walsh, who recently switched his party affiliation to Democrat, believes that the Democratic party needs to adopt a new strategy in order to effectively combat their Republican opponents. In an interview with POLITICO, Walsh expressed his frustration with the current state of politics and emphasized the need for a different approach.
“I am seriously thinking about relocating to South Carolina and taking on Lindsey Graham in the upcoming election, because he is a disgrace,” Walsh stated. “He embodies everything that is wrong with our political system, and he has been a loyal enabler of Trump’s destructive agenda.”
If Walsh decides to enter the race, he will not be the only Democrat vying for the Senate seat. Progressive candidate Dr. Annie Andrews has already announced her campaign for the position, setting the stage for a potentially competitive primary.
Walsh previously served as a congressman representing the northwest suburbs of Chicago from 2011 to 2013. His potential challenge to Lindsey Graham comes after Graham’s high-profile re-election battle against Jaime Harrison, which saw record-breaking fundraising totals and significant national attention. Despite Harrison’s strong campaign, Graham ultimately secured a victory with a 10-point margin.
As Walsh explores the possibility of running for Senate in South Carolina, the political landscape in the state is poised for another contentious and closely-watched race. With his background as a conservative Democrat and vocal critic of the Trump administration, Walsh could bring a unique perspective to the campaign and offer voters a distinct choice in the upcoming election.
