The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) is a significant event in sub-Saharan Africa, providing a platform for trade exchange opportunities in the region. This year, the ZITF’s 65th edition will take place from 21st to 26th April 2025 in Bulawayo, under the theme “Industrialisation: Crafting an Integrated Economic Landscape.”

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to defeating hunger, will be actively participating in this year’s ZITF. FAO will be hosting a series of side events and networking dialogues that complement the main exhibition, focusing on key themes and innovations implemented under the FAO Country Programming Framework 2022 – 2026. These events aim to increase knowledge and understanding of FAO’s role in Zimbabwe.

Through interactive sessions aligned with FAO’s core mandate in Zimbabwe, participants will engage in discussions on thematic issues, challenges, and opportunities. These expert-led dialogues will provide a platform for stakeholders to collaborate, share experiences, and align FAO programming with realistic interventions.

At the ZITF, FAO will also exhibit under the One UN umbrella, showcasing its contributions to environmental protection, climate resilience, and natural resources management. Mr. Edward Kallon, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, emphasized the transformative potential of businesses in agricultural development and food systems, highlighting the importance of engaging youth and communities in the sector.

Addressing the challenges faced by developing nations like Zimbabwe, Mr. Kallon stressed the need for cohesive efforts to build resilient food systems that can drive economic growth and alleviate hunger and poverty. As Zimbabwe looks towards the future, collaborative efforts from businesses, policymakers, youth, and communities will be crucial in transforming food systems and achieving sustainable development goals.

Following the ZITF, FAO will work towards fulfilling commitments and fostering collaboration with strategic partners in Zimbabwe. The organization remains dedicated to advancing its development agenda and contributing to the country’s progress.

This article, distributed by APO Group on behalf of the FAO Regional Office for Africa, highlights the importance of the ZITF as a platform for promoting trade, fostering collaboration, and addressing key issues in the agriculture and food sector.
